This is one of the findings of a new comprehensive study of more than 12,000 Canadian and U.S. workers by Robert Half, in collaboration with world-renowned happiness and well-being expert Nic Marks . The research examines key contributors to employee happiness and has been released in a new report,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roberthalf.ca\/en\/its-time-we-all-work-happy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">It\u2019s Time We All Work Happy\u2122: The Secrets of the Happiest Companies and Employees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm canvas-atom\">\u201cThis research shows a high level of happiness at work among professionals overall, but also demonstrates unique challenge areas by sector and company size,\u201d said Paul McDonald , senior executive director of Robert Half .\u00a0 \u201cFor businesses struggling to attract and retain workers with in-demand skills, the report provides a roadmap for forging deeper engagement and commitment levels among staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm canvas-atom\"><b>On-the Job Happiness \u2013 Overall Findings<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"canvas-list Pstart(40px) Mt(1.5em) Mb(1.5em) List(d)\">\n<li><b>Most professionals are generally happy<\/b>. On a happiness scale of 0 \u2013 100, those surveyed scored a 71.<\/li>\n<li><b>The power of pride.\u00a0<\/b>Having pride in one\u2019s organization is the No. 1 driver of happiness overall for respondents. Those who feel proud of their organization are three times more likely to be happy than those who are not.<\/li>\n<li><b>Respect and appreciation go a long way.\u00a0<\/b>The second and third top factors driving happiness are feeling appreciated, and being treated with fairness and respect.<\/li>\n<li><b>Poor fit employees more likely to be headed for the door.\u00a0<\/b>One-third of workers (33 per cent) say they will likely leave their current employer in the next six months; workers who report that they are not a good match with their employers are the most apt to leave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"slideshow-image Maw(100%) Mah(100%) M(a) W(a) StretchedBox aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/l.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/L66gFl7O4Vnk0RlWbv_0kw--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjtzbT0xO3c9MTI4MDtoPTk2MDtpbD1wbGFuZQ--\/http:\/\/photos.newswire.ca\/images\/20161027_C5413_PHOTO_EN_805044.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm canvas-atom\"><b>Happiness by Occupation and Company Size<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"canvas-list Pstart(40px) Mt(1.5em) Mb(1.5em) List(d)\">\n<li><b>Small business employees are happier.\u00a0<\/b>People working in firms with 10 or fewer employees have the highest happiness levels. Organizations with 10,000 or more employees report the lowest.<\/li>\n<li><b>Teaching, creative professions fare well.<\/b>\u00a0Those in the education and training sector, as well as marketing and design, report the highest levels of on-the-job happiness and interest in their work, while finance professionals were among those reporting the lowest levels on these two factors.<\/li>\n<li><b>Legal professionals the most stressed.<\/b>\u00a0Legal professionals report the highest stress levels at work, while technology employees cite the lowest stress levels.<\/li>\n<li><b>More engagement in the corner office.<\/b>\u00a0Senior executives have the highest happiness levels, while people working in sales and customer service are on the lower end of the spectrum.<\/li>\n<li><b>Accountants just want to be appreciated.<\/b>\u00a0Different professions have slightly different key drivers of happiness at work. For example, feeling appreciated is a primary factor for accountants, while doing worthwhile work is more important for marketing professionals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm canvas-atom\"><b>Happiness by Age and Gender<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"canvas-list Pstart(40px) Mt(1.5em) Mb(1.5em) List(d)\">\n<li><b>Millennials want to make their mark.<\/b>\u00a0For those ages 34 and under, a sense of accomplishment is the strongest determinant of happiness.<\/li>\n<li><b>For Gen X, reality might, indeed, \u2018bite.\u2019<\/b>\u00a0Workers ages 35 to 54 are the least happy, most stressed out and least interested in their work.<\/li>\n<li><b>Experienced workers have more reasons to smile.\u00a0<\/b>Employees ages 55 and up report the highest levels of happiness on the job.<\/li>\n<li><b>Men feel more influential.<\/b>\u00a0Men fare better than women in nearly every aspect of happiness studied.
